High School Happenings
My name is Scott Link and I’m the new coordinator of Youth Ministry here at St. Joe’s! I’ve been working in Youth ministry for over 10 years now. I graduated from Calvert Hall in ’99 and Lynchburg College in ’03. I was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame for lacrosse at Lynchburg and still play weekly with Severn River Lacrosse Club in Annapolis! I attribute my love for the Church to my awesome family (my four brothers and my amazing parents). I learned about faith from watch my mom praying for us constantly as we traveled back and forth from the hospital for stitches and casts (she should be canonized someday since it’s a miracle that we are all still alive, proof that prayer does work). I love all sports, mountain biking, being Catholic, traveling, movies, hiking, Italy (and all its food), the Pope, music, my gorgeous holy wife, my hilarious 3 daughters and doing youth ministry. My favorite saying is “In coelo quies est” (Latin) or “In Heaven there is rest.” I still can’t believe that I get paid to talk to teens about Jesus and the Church – sure beats tents making (like St. Paul). Be Holy, and I’ll see you in Heaven!

(Don’t worry – no baking, just decorating) Join us for a birthday cake decorating contest and a little Christmas cheer. No baking skills required. Warning- frosting may get a bit messy. Bring your sweet tooth. Meet at the Hall kitchen at 6:11 pm.

UNWINED CANDLE FUNDRAISER
As a fundraiser for Mission Trip 2018, we are selling Unwined Candles, which are from a local business with a cute little shop in downtown Sykesville. They make amazing-smelling soy candles in recycled wine bottles and beer bottles.
Candle orders can be placed online at www.unwinedcandles.com (or in person through the Youth Ministry Office) from now until NOON on Nov. 30. All candles (those ordered on-line and via order form) will be available for pick-up at St. Joe’s after Masses on Dec 16/17. Click here for the Unwined Candles Order Form
GIFT CARD FUNDRAISER
As a fundraiser for Mission Trip 2018, we are selling Gift Cards to hundreds of retailers through the Scrip company. Purchase some for gifts or for your own shopping needs. Order forms will be in the church bulletins, in the parish office, and HERE beginning the weekend of November 18/19. The deadline to order Gift Cards is NOON on Dec. 5. Gift Cards will be available for pick-up at St. Joe’s after Masses on Dec 16/17. Thanks for your support!
WHAT’S A MISSION TRIP?
Gear up for these high-energy, home-repair mission trips each summer during which youth work hard to improve the living situations of people in need, while also building strong relationships with friends and youth leaders. Our previous mission trips have served the people of Scranton, PA, China Grove, NC, York, PA, Keansburg, NJ, Burlington, NJ and Lexington, NC.
WHERE ARE YOU GOING IN 2018?
Our 2018 Mission Trip will be to an Indian Reservation in New Mexico from June 24-30. At this time, we are no longer accepting applications for the trip. If you would like to be placed on a waiting list, email Scott Link at firstname.lastname@example.org
We are looking for young people who sing and/or play a musical instrument (any instrument is great!) We rehearse on Sundays before the 5:00 pm Mass, then play at Mass. Contact the YM Office for more information. You may earn Confirmation service hours for your participation.
Teens are also invited to participate in the SJCC Hand Bell Choir. Interested? Contact Carole Gauthier at email@example.com
Service Opportunities are listed on our Confirmation Page.
