April 17: Good Shepherd Sunday
Break Out Theme: We Can’t Stay Here!

In the butterfly world, the cocoon is essential for the life of the caterpillar, but at some point, it must break out. All of life begins in a protective environment, but at some point the life within must come to a place where it says, “I can’t stay here!” “I must break out!” So it is in the spiritual life! To grow, we must break out of old comfortable places and patterns that at one time may have been good, but are now growth stunting. As Jesus broke out of death and the tomb, so must we! We cannot stay here!

The attitude of folk in Jesus’ time was, “Yes, we can stay here in our own little comfortable fold.” This can be our attitude as well! Jesus, the Good Shepherd, wants to get us to the point where we, with the disciples, say, “We can’t stay here!” Jesus’ sheep break out of fold and into the world!
