“Religious Education is an expression of the teaching mission entrusted by Jesus to the Church He founded … Education is one of the most important ways by which the Church fulfills its commitment to the dignity of the person and the building of the community. The educational efforts of the Church must therefore be directed to forming persons-in-community; for the education of the individual Christian is important not only to his/her destiny but also to the many communities in which he/she lives.”
—To Teach As Jesus Did, Pastoral Letter of U.S. Bishops
The Archdiocese requires at least one parent to attend one meeting from Part 1 and one meeting from Part 2 for each of the sacraments (First Reconciliation and First Eucharist).
Children are expected to prepare and receive the sacrament of Reconciliation before celebrating their First Eucharist.
First Eucharist Celebration Sign-Ups begin in January online. (This is an equal opportunity for those needing a specific date; there are no early sign-ups.)
First Eucharist Blessing Masses: As part of the preparation process, we require candidates to attend three Masses themed with a blessing and symbol for their preparation to receive their communion with Christ for the first time.
We will offer you a sign up system for attending these masses, two to three weeks prior, in order to have a count of how many folks will attend at each of the three masses on each date, so we may reserve pews for your families. We will have a representative of the First Eucharist Committee present to welcome you in the Narthex on these dates that will also ask you to sign in, and then give your candidate(s) a symbol to place in the prayer basket when invited forward to receive their blessing.
Please note that if you miss both meetings listed above, your child will not be able to receive the Sacrament this year.
Dates for the Celebrations are subject to change once the Bishop announces the dates for our Confirmation Celebrations in the late Fall. Firm dates will be assured before the sign up date in January.
Practices are held in the Church and the Cassidy Center. Proceed directly to the Church. Please be prompt! For the courtesy of all, we will start at 7:00 pm.
