Cantors proclaim the psalm in song after the first reading at Mass.
They also intone the Mass Acclamations, including: the Gloria, the Gospel Acclamation and its verse, the “Sanctus” (Holy, holy, holy…), the “Mysterium fidei” (Mystery of faith), the Great Amen, and the “Agnus Dei” (Lamb of God).
They are responsible to cue and lead congregational singing.
These music ministers need singing ability as well as clarity, conviction, and sensitivity to the texts, the musical settings, and those who are listening to the psalm and joining in song.
