What is Life Mapping

Life mapping is a technique for visually representing milestones, events, goals, and experiences in a person’s life. It’s often a tool for self-reflection, helping individuals see how their past, present, and future are interconnected. Life mapping can be used for personal growth, reflection, or simply to better understand one’s journey. Life mapping can be a helpful tool for making sense of one’s experiences and how they are impacting your present and future self.

There are different ways to approach life mapping, such as using a journal, a linear timeline, or a program on your computer (like Word or Excel).  The beauty is there is no wrong way to create your map, it is uniquely yours!

Father John will walk you through HIS Life Map over the next four weeks, giving insight into his life and hopefully inspiring you to look closer to yours.

Saturday, March 1st | 10:00 am – 12:00 pm in Chaminade Center

Helpful Tips

  • Summarize: Avoid writing too much detail about your past on your maps.
  • Images are OK: Consider using symbols, drawings, or other visual prompts to help show an event.
  • Use Pencil: Try different plans and tweak until it is YOUR map.
  • Electronic Options: If you are more comfortable with a keyboard than a pen, you can create your map in Excel or Word.
  • Include It All:  Don’t forget to include essential world events, songs, movies, books, etc.
  • Pace Yourself: Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed – it is not an all or nothing project.

Father John started his life map before he was born, sharing details about his grandparents, parents, and family. By doing this, he shows how other choices and actions can significantly impact you.

Helpful Hints

  • Topics to consider: Places you lived, friends you had, schooling or other learning events, work experience, and ways you served
  • Include hobbies you enjoyed or sports you played, favorite song, books you read, or movie you watched.  (I distinctly remember watching a James Bond movie when I was 6 that scared me horribly; especially since I was supposed to be in bed… still don’t like James Bond!)

Warm Up Question

When was the last time you had a deep belly laugh?  What kinds of things make you laugh?
