Be a Ministry Disciple

SJCC has multiple ministries that serve our community that allows you to say “YES” as Mary did.

CARROLL COUNTY FOOD SUNDAY – Carroll County Food Sunday (CCFS) distributes milk, eggs, meat, and non-perishable food products to families in need every Wednesday.  Volunteers are assigned to teams; each team works one week a month, usually between 9 am and 12 noon. Donations to our food pantry come from various sources, with the bulk of the food coming from Carroll County Food Bank.

COMMUNITY TABLE – (formerly Feed My Sheep) Teams prepare and serve lunch at Wesley Freedom Church on the third Thursday of the month.  There are three teams. Each team helps once every three months.

HIS TABLE ESCAPE MINISTRIES – SJCC provides 72-100 lunches in the “His Table” Ministry, part of South Carroll’s Escape Ministry. Twenty-one volunteers make bagged lunches five times a year for those less fortunate. The lunches are taken to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in downtown Sykesville to be distributed.

HOME BOUND AND NURSING HOMES MINISTRY – This ministry brings the Eucharist to those unable to attend Mass.  The minister is trained as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and serves on an as-needed basis.

MOTHER SETON ACADEMY – SJCC partners with MSA, located in Baltimore City, to support its mission to provide a Catholic education to underprivileged children. The MSA Outreach Committee is a group of parishioners that meet regularly to assess the needs of MSA and coordinate volunteers for tutoring and service projects. SJCC parishioners also provide gift cards for a Christmas shopping day for MSA students. Volunteers shop with the students and provide a luncheon and gift-wrapping party in the Chaminade Center. We also have several members who volunteer to mentor the students.

OUR DAILY BREAD (ODB) – Our Daily Bread serves more than a quarter of a million meals to the hungry of Baltimore City each year. Parishioners make approximately 50 casseroles each month. The pans and recipe are provided. The ODB team consists of volunteers that deliver the casseroles and serve the meals on the second Thursday of each month.

PRISON MINISTRY – Volunteers visit and minister to prisoners at the men’s minimum security prison facility on the southern grounds of Springfield Hospital Center.

SAINT VINCENT de PAUL MINISTRYVolunteers meet with community members experiencing financial emergencies and administer assistance on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Volunteers work in teams, and monetary aid comes from the poor box donations throughout the year.

SHEPHERD’S TABLE – Volunteers serve the homeless and hungry of Carroll County by preparing, delivering, and serving meals approximately seven to eight Fridays a year.

STEPHEN MINISTRY – Stephen Ministry is a highly effective caring ministry at SJCC. Through Stephen Ministry, congregation members receive training to provide emotional and spiritual care to people experiencing grief, divorce, illness, job loss, hospitalization, and other difficulties.  Stephen Ministers are trained caregivers who offer confidential one-to-one Christ-centered care to members of those who are hurting.
